SS Osmund and Andrew’s is within the network of Catholic schools in the Salford Diocese and is primarily intended for the children of St Osmund’s Parish.

The school, in partnership with the clergy and parents, is committed to the development of the whole child by fostering in a supportive, Catholic atmosphere, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical, moral and social growth.

It strives to nurture the Christian values of love and respect for others in the school, parish, local and world communities.

BOSCEP

The Bolton Schools Catholic Education Partnership (BOSCEP) Background: There are over 7,000 children and young people, aged 4 to 19, served by the 19 Catholic primary and secondary schools in Bolton and 2 Catholic primary schools in Wigan. There has always been a strong bond within the individual clusters of Catholic schools that is based around admissions to the 3 Catholic high schools. There is also a long standing and extremely supportive network of Bolton Catholic Heads who meet every half-term.

Religious Education

“In the life of faith of the Catholic school, Religious Education plays a vital part.” (Religious Education in Catholic Schools, Bishops’ Conference, 2000).  At SS Osmund and Andrew’s Religious Education is the core subject, at the heart of everything we do.

We expect what is taught in Religious Education to be reflected in the daily life and values experienced by our children in school and hopefully in their homes and the wider parish community.

Religious Education makes up at least 10% of our teaching time.  “Come and See” scheme of work forms the basis of our curriculum for Religious Education and this is supplemented with a variety of other resources.  The Bible is a vital resource for our school life.  We aim to deliver the objectives within our scheme of work in the most creative and engaging ways possible.  This could include writing, reading, art, drama, debate and the use of ICT.  Reflection is an important aspect of Religious Education, and we provide opportunities for this, even for our very youngest children.​

Eucharist, Prayer, Worship and Services

School masses, class assemblies and celebrations such as Nativity plays, Carol and Lenten Services and the Parish Sacramental Programme form an integral part of the Religious Education of our children and we are rightly proud of the very high standards of such celebrations. The children are a central part of our services so we encourage as much participation and involvement as possible.

Work with our Parish Priest

Fr. Heakin is our Parish Priest, he is a regular visitor to our school and knows the children well.  Fr. Heakin celebrates mass in school termly for all of our children and during the course of the year each class attends mass in church. Sacramental Programme

The Sacramental Programme begins in Y3 with Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.  The programme is run by the parish and supported by school.
